Intentional Romance

If we really loved each other, wouldn't romance just happen? Really, if he loved me, wouldn't romance just happen? That was what I used to think and I would begin believing that our marriage was doomed because there was no romance. And then I began looking and acting intentionally at our marriage relationship. Great marriages don't just happen. They take work. Some intentional things we have done that have brought our marriage to new depths are:
  • Focus on God's plan and purpose for marriage (Beginning with Genesis 2:24)
  • Love unconditionally ...Love (John 3:16 and 1Corinthians 13)
  • Realize that we "all stumble in many ways" (James 3:2) and forgive
  • Surrender unrealistic expectations
  • Prescribe to be the best spouse we can be
  • Pray
Romance is so much more than an experience...don't get me wrong, I love candlelight and roses and moonlit walks on the beach as much as the next girl....they are nice but what I've come to realize is that romance is a lifestyle and it is intentional. It does not just happen nor do I expect my spouse to perform.  When I began to let go of the world's view of romance and began pursuing romance as Jesus has romanced me, it blossomed...into something even more beautiful than I could have ever imagined.

Using one of the six principles listed above what is some ways that you can you be intentional to bring romance into your marriage?

His Helpmate

Right now there are over 1500 women signed up through the SHMILY prayer group...we've committed to pray for our husbands for 30 days. I love to pray for my guy but I must admit, somedays it seems like I'm praying the same rote prayer...please protect him, help him to find favor, change his heart....the focused prayer has really brought me back to a place of sensitivity to his needs. And how I can see the enemy just waiting to attack. Since I joined with the women on this venture, my husband has been out of town two-thirds of the time and is in a season of committed video projects. This morning I was a bit out of sorts and feeling a bit lonely; I chose to let him know about it. I could tell it hurt. He is so sensitive to my needs and tonight he offered to put aside his projects because he felt he had been neglecting me. He had even gotten off work a bit early so he could go to the grocery store and make dinner before I got home from work.

Now part of me wanted to jump on that offer and then the Spirit whispered to me...He has obligations that he needs to fulfill. Remember that you prayed that he would have integrity? That he would find favor amongst those he serves? Well, yes, yes I did. I looked up at him and told him go and work on his projects.

The truth is God made me to be his helper (Gen 2:18). I want to help him be successful. I can help bring blessing into his life by extending him the freedom to do the things God has called him to do. In the Lies Women Believe and the Truth That Sets Them Free, Nancy Leigh DeMoss states, "Blessing and joy are the fruit of seeking to be a giver rather than a taker and of looking for ways to bless, serve and minister to the needs of our families."

I can hear him working as he edits his videos and a surprising joy is in my heart. Guess I have a little extra time to blog!

Prince Charming

Our Saturday morning routine includes yard-saleing. It started as our date morning when the kids were old enough to be home by themselves for a little bit. We'd go and get coffee and then drive around town visiting with our neighbors and seeking little treasures to fill our home. The kids are gone now but we still enjoy our Saturday mornings.

Today I found an adorable shabby chic chandelier for $5!  I love finding our "treasure of the week". I said to Ray, "I feel like a princess!" He smiled and my heart was suddenly overwhelmed with love for him. "You're my Prince Charming!". I thanked God for giving me a true prince. I shared with him that I never dreamed I'd have the husband and the life that I do...how grateful for the love we share.  He smiled even bigger.

My chandelier is a sweet treat but my real treasure of the week was a moment when my princess heart danced with her prince.

Welcome

Welcome to A Transformed Wife. One of the things I am most passionate about is worshiping God through respect for my husband and my marriage.  Each day I learn about God and his character through my relationship with my "McGuyver". My hubby can do just about anything! I call him "my guy" for short.

We live a simple, transparent life. We're shedding all the pretenses and unrealistic expectations. We hope to simply live out our lives in freedom and joyful anticipation for all God has planned for us.

This journey of knowing Christ deeper through marriage is such a blessing and it is a privilege to share life with you.

Chatting for Him,
Teri

Pruning

Pruning

The first passage of Scripture that came to life for me after receiving Christ as my personal Savior was John 15. I was in the midst of growing an incredible garden (Ray and I see this flower bed utopia quite differently). Every day Jenny, Todd and I would tend to our Winnie the Pooh wildflower garden. We watered, pulled weeds that crept in, fertilized and loved on our little patch of summer blooms.  Our Winnie the Pooh garden flourished under the tender loving care of its caretakers. I can still smell the sweet aroma of wildflowers rising up and blowing through the arid winds of the Lubbock cottonfields. Sometimes it became necessary to cut the overgrowth because it became too crowded. It hurt to cut them back, but to make room for new growth, it was ncessary. That summer garden grew to be a beautiful little piece of heaven here on earth.

Our small group began discussing the blessing of pruning in John 15, my ears and my heart were so attentive. It was just like our little garden. In my simple understanding, I could see that in pruning me, God was not simply taking away, but making room to add in my life. I fell in love with vineyards from that day on as I learned the art of the pruning from the Vinedresser.  I love that God sent us shortly after that lesson from the cottonfields of Lubbock to the vineyard country of California.

Today Ray and I read from John 15 once again. It’s amazing to me how much more that passage means to me all these years later. I am reminded that the pruning comes to those He loves so He can make room for the abundance that He has planned for us. These past weeks, the Lord has led me to take a hard look at some areas in my life, sometimes thinning out some of the overgrowth so the that the Son can reach down deep…often He’s been cutting down to the vine, that my branches be renewed in grace that the fruit that it produces is sweeter and more abundant.

Here on the Central Coast we get to see the beauty of Jesus’ teachings in the vineyards that surround us. Now that it is spring, the dead branches have been pruned, and new growth is beginning. The vinedresser will attentively tend the branches so that they are free to simply live under his loving care and grow into the spectacular harvest of fruit that awaits in fall.

Come Lord Jesus come! Tend to me that my fruit might be sweet and ripe at the harvest. Amen.

“I am the true grapevine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more”.
John 15:1-2 NLT
